I learned a lot of the basics from it and would recommend it for someone who didn't know any Spanish. But then I tried Rosetta Stone. I'm almost finished with it and have learned less common words. I'd say that if a person wanted to use Rosetta Stone, they should know a little Spanish first. I'm impress with Rosetta Stone because it teaches a lot more than the basics. It seems easy for me with so much repetition, which I need. I don't like to spend time memorizing tenses and this method doesn't call for that. However, I also don't 'get' some of the more complicated sentences. I can communicate more with Spanish speakers since starting the course and am glad I purchased it. I would add that we all have different learning styles, and for many people RS works. I didn't care for it either, but I really like a program that explains things to me in English. At times this may confuse the learner which is real poison in the long run. And although I'm not a grammar freak, you certainly need to know many Spanish tenses (wherever you're aware or not, you need them). Well, with Rosetta Stone you'll never ever learn them. I'm not even sure if the past tenses are covered! So no, don't rely on this thing.
