What About Those Promises That You Can Learn Spanish Practically Overnight?

in Learn Spanish

Well, I exaggerate, but if you have been exploring Spanish language lessons online, you may have noticed the glowing phrases about how much you can learn in just a short time.

Do I believe you can learn Spanish in a short time? Well, partly. Here’s what I do believe:

  • If you use a good Spanish learning program, whether online or not,
  • And if you work at it diligently every day,
  • And if you review what you’ve learned, whether through built-in review in the program, or going over its lessons again, or using a flashcard program,
  • Then you WILL learn a lot more Spanish than you know right now.

How much more Spanish will you learn in a month, three months, six months?

That depends on several factors. It depends on how much time you are able to devote to the project most days. It depends on how good a program you chose and how suitable it is to your learning style. It depends a LOT on how you review what you have studied. It does depend to a degree on your innate ability to learn languages. It depends on your motivation.

If you haven’t already picked up my free ebook, Five Keys to Learning Spanish Rapidly, which explains how to learn to speak Spanish, you can read more about it at that link or just sign up for it on the right-hand side of any page of this website.

Many people who try to learn Spanish on their own don’t succeed. It’s so easy to get distracted. But if you really want to, and if you work at it, yes, you can learn a lot of Spanish fast.

Thanks for a very enjoyable comment!

Kids' brains are wired differently than ours... too bad we can't go back and frontload what we are trying to learn now!
  • I have been studying spanish for about 15 years. Everyday, all the time, night and day. It is my mind all the time. I talk to myself in spanish and get some funny looks when accidently over heard. I went to school at a community college for ten years one night a week and learned alot. I live in a community of 70% spanish speakers. The only people not bi-lengual are the lazy gringos who want to speak but don't want to learn. It is not easy and learning is an everyday, every minute process. I listen to total mexican radio and watch as much mexican TV as possible. I ask most of the people I meet during the day if they speak spanish. You can't beleive the gringos out there who speak spanish but we never know who they are. I speak at the bank, the cleaners, the schools, grocery stores, convience stores and auto parts stores. Most of the workers in my town are hispanics and love to talk to you in spanish. My part of the world in a living classroom for espanol. Sad to say but I am still not fluent and probably never will be but thats allright. I love the spanish language and keep right on talking, making mistakes and having fun. Met a lot of new people in my job and social life who are hablantes de espanol. I talk with a lot of illegals, of whom there are many. They love to talk with you because they can't speak english and are glad to talk with you about things. There are many little kids who like to talk spanish to gringos. How did they learn to be fluent in english and spanish both in less then five years? Thanks so much and I am available for any questions. After all this time I do know a little. Thanks KC
